Sculpture - Main Page

In 1986, as part of a papermaking course while studying at the Corcoran School of Art, Dominic was given an assignment to create a 3-dimensional work using handmade paper. The choice was an easy one, he decided to build a tropical volcanic island. The success of this first effort lead to a series of pieces over the years culminating in his topographically accurate model of Mauna Kea currently on loan at the Gemini Observatory building in Hilo, Hawaii. Intricately detailed, and painstakingly crafted, the pieces each required hundreds of hours to build.
